AUTHORITIES OF MEDICINE AS OUR PATIENTS

I have been treated for 12 years for (sporadic) Inclusion Body Myositis (s)IBM with various methods including kinesitherapy, which, due to the lack of pharmacological effects, is considered to be the leading one in this disease. I started classic rehabilitation (UGUL, ladders, exercise mat, PNF, etc.) after the lack of clinical improvement in pharmacological treatment, i.e. about 2 years from the first symptoms of the disease. Despite considerable efforts of physiotherapists, the efficiency of disappearing muscles after 4 years decreased, and the following exercises 3 x per week did not improve the clinical condition. At that stage of my disease, I started rehabilitation in a standing position using PRAGMA 2 by Marek Kowalski. Thanks to the use of a specific elastomer system, I am able to perform assigned tasks myself in a standing position (squats, stepper, moving platform, moving on an automatic treadmill, etc) being completely safe. Panic fear of a vertical position completely disappears. Possibility of kicking a ball, for example, makes my mood pleasant and exercises become interesting, activities are not boring. The same applies to a physiotherapist who is completely deprived of worries about exercising in a standing position. Thanks to this type of exercise, I am still active, I work as a part-time urologist at the age of 71. Additionally, Marek Kowalski continuously improves a mobile lift, placed under the ceiling, enabling independent walking on a flat surface and stairs for patients with a complete gait disorder. I would like to congratulate Mr. Kowalski on his achievements for people like me, thank him for the ongoing care over me and wish him creative inspiration in inventing new devices that put persons in need on their feet.

As a result of an accident on a ski slope, I suffered a flaccid paralysis of the lower limbs and a large hematoma in the thoracic – lumbar section. Within two days from the onset of lower limb paralysis, the hematoma was surgically removed. Until I appeared in Marek Kowalski’s center, I used a wheelchair and faced further symptoms of flaccid limb paralysis. After six months, I started to move around with a help of a walking frame. Further rehabilitation on Pragma lasting a year and a half allows me to move freely without using any help.
